The Battle at the Yellow Stone River

After the head long tussle
The grey bison struggled with head ache
His mind confused with strength
His brain surrounded with water
Around and around, he went
Amidst the current, floating
His nostrils fighting to find air
Submerged, he would rise
Only to sink down below
Moments like this repeating itself

The sunset came
And others left the scene
Nothing but river noise as the grey bison
Rises from the ashes of salt
Up into the fresh warm air
As he steps onto solid ground
His strength gone with the river
It’s time for rest, time to sleep
Time to recover all that was lost
